Handling resignations

Everyone who has commented thus far has made some excellent points. For the current T, there is no way to handle resigned players that will be fair to everyone. Dapharmer has done an excellent job presenting the pros and cons of keeping the games already played by resigned players. If you have already won against resigned players you will get 'punished' (i.e., confirmed wins are removed that were earned during a real match) if those already played matches with resigned players are thrown out. If you already lost to the resigned players you will get rewarded (i.e., confirmed match losses are removed) if already played matches with resigned players are thrown out. On the other hand, I fully understand and appreciate the point that having the resigned players forfeit their remaining games benefits the slower players by giving them a win that they didn't earn by playing a real match. My reasoning for going with dapharmer's way is that at least you are not removing a win (or a loss) that was already earned and posted in actual match play. The question everyone has to answer is, what is more fair, giving wins to slower players without having to play their matches, or, taking wins (and losses) away from faster players that have already been played their match. Unfortunately, there is no decision I can see that will be fair to everyone. I support dapharmer's suggestion because it doesn't directly punish anyone although it does give freebie wins to the slower players. From the spreadsheet it appears that most of the slower players won't be in the final 8 anyway. For this reason, and because there is precedent for dapharmer's approach, I still support it. At the very least, I think we have made a case for defining a reasonable match/week requirement for future Tourneys. I appreciate hearing everyone's viewpoints so far and look forward to hearing from the players who have not yet commented. Most importantly, I am enjoying the truly respectful way everyone is communicating and presenting their viewpoints. I will be happy with whatever the majority decides as it will set the precedent in how this issue will be handled in the future. Cheers!

Who is zooescape?

I was thinking that if you created a website like this, surely you enjoy the game and would want to play, so maybe they play on this site or would that be inappropriate to play on your own website.

Who is ZE?

Maybe they play. I've thought all along that they simply were looking for a way to make money, but it takes a lot of time to get something like this rolling. The earlier additions and changes were awesome, then they got stuck on the live backgammon games, and I haven't seen a change since.
