Check out your percentages Your play with the 52 (move 25) is the wrong one. Moving 5/off 4/2 leaves you with 19 rolls that win next time (25 52 26 62 35 53 36 63 45 54 46 64 56 65 22 33 44 55 and 66) or 52.8%, while your play 5/off 5/3 only leaves 17 (34 43 35 53 36 63 45 54 46 64 56 65 22 33 44 55 and 66) or just 48.2%. Generally you want to leave 2 checkers like this as far apart as possible, so 4 and 1 instead of 2 and 3 etc, but the 5:2 split is the exception, better than 6:1 which only has 15 'outs' - if you have the choice. Not that it made any difference in the end in this game as your 51 was no use either way. Also Artin should have recubed before rolling the 21. |

In that second one my AD at move 46 from the bar when only the 12 points were covered was a particularly nice touch as I was 2:1 favourite to hit. In the other game my AD at move 45 also fanned on the 1,2 and 3 points. |

however it wouldn't have happened if you slotted the 5 point with the opening 51. There was also a better play at move 17 with the 14 which would have made the 66 play safely. It often pays to look out for that. Here's another 'perfect' blitz, opponent only able to make opening move. http://zooescape.com/backgammon.pl?v=200&gid=2081914&p1=guthers&p2=zuluwarrior |
